Question on German State coins of Aachen about Value between different denominations

5 posts
Hello everyone, is there anyone that can help me figure out the monetary value system of coins from Aachen in the 14th and 15th century?

The following coins have existed:

Sterling,
Tournosengroschen,
Heller,
Mariengroschen and
Pfennig

a change in monetary system as I understand only came in 1563 with the arrival of the Goldgulden and the Taler.

If you want to implement this in Numista this will be a fruitless task because the system changed so rapidly and was mixed in with so many of the sourrounding ones. (8

Agreed.

It is a headache to find the correspondences between currencies at these periods of time and the Numista system to order the coins with relative values fails.

The best you can do is probably order them using "fantasy" fractions reflecting size and weight, fineness if there is info.

One trouble with German States is that you don't have the "currency" field available.

Sorry Im on a short holiday so it will be hard to answer until Monday.
when I took over as a referee for the German States there were some states already seperated because of denomination or currency changes.
Recently I have done so for Bayern and for Württemberg I have all denomination changes marked down on my PC for almost all states, with information from websites, books...
For medieval coins in Germany its relatively easy too as for most there was just the Weißer Pfennig.
But for 15th and 14th century it seems really hard to find information.
