Coins from the Archbishopric of Arles

In 1162, Emperor Frederick Barbarossa confirmed the archbishops of Arles the right to mint money and shared the lordship between the Count of Provence and the archbishop. Anonymous coinage ended under Gaillard of Saumate (1317-1323) who had his name affixed to his coins, then resumed from 1374. The archbishops of Arles were the last to mint coins in Provence, until the 1520s under Jean Ferrier.
