Coins from the County of Jaffa and Ascalon

"The city of Jaffa, located west of Jerusalem, was occupied by the Genovese Crusaders in 1099 and after aquiring Ascalon in 1153, it became the centre of the County of Jaffa and Ascalon, one of the four major seigneuries composing the Kingdom of Jerusalem. The king appointed lifetime governors until 1268 when the city fell to the Mamluks. The city issued a few anonymous billon and copper deniers bearing a cross and a gateway."
