Coins from the County of Tripoli

"The County of Tripoli was the last of the Crusader states to be founded in the Levant in 1109. Bertrand of Toulouse was the first Count of Tripoli as a vassal of King Baldwin I of Jerusalem. The following counts were appointed by the king, until 1289, when the County of Tripoli fell to Sultan Qalawun of the Muslim Mamluks of Cairo. Tripoli was the first crusader state to issue coins with Latin inscriptions, at a time when Byzantine imitative coins were issued in Edessa and Antioch. These were billon deniers struck by Bertrand of Toulouse (1109-1112), 30 years ahead of any other Latin coinage in the Levant. Tripoli had an abundant coin production until the end of the 13th century."
