Coins from the County of Erbach

The County of Erbach was founded in the 12th century by Eberhard of Erbach. In 1532, Emperor Charles V made the county a direct fief of the Holy Empire, due to the services rendered by Count Eberhard, a namesake of his ancestor, during the German Peasants' War. In 1806, the fall of the Holy Roman Empire put a de facto end to the imperial county which was integrated into the Grand Duchy of Hesse.
