Comments

The Gagauz are Turkish-speaking Orthodox Christians living in southern Moldava. There are numerous theories concerning their origins. After the collapse of the Soviet Union the Gagauz Republic attempted to become independent from Moldava. They were eventually granted a large degree of autonomy within Moldava, though there are still many Gaguz who strive for full independence.
