Obverse

A picture of the state of Maine is on the center of the coin. The capital AUGUSTA is marked on the picture (with words and small capitol symbol). The lettering “ MAINE” is on the top circumference of the coin. The lettering “THE 23RD STATE” is on the bottom circumference of the coin. There are 4 stars on either side of the coin along the circumference, making a total of 8 stars on the obverse.

Reverse

The back features a picture of the bald eagle sitting on a perch with the American Flag near the top of the coin. The name of the state is under the Eagle, and the nickname of the state is under the name of the state. There are facts about the state under the nickname, such as the date of admittance into the union, state flower, and state bird.
