Obverse

The upper half of the pope is shown with him dressed in full ceremonial garments and holding a large cross that has a small Jesus on it. Above this is "JOANNES PAULUS PP. II" and to the bottom right is the engraver's name "E. Manifrini".

Reverse

Jesus is in the center with a group of followers circled around him, with the ones on his left and right sides standing and the ones in front of him sitting. All of the countries visited in Asia by Pope John Paul II are listed along the edge, and at the bottom is the date his tour began and the date it ended.
