Comments

The Palace of the Dukes and States of Burgundy in Dijon, Côte-d'Or, is an architectural ensemble comprising several interlocking parts: the oldest is the 14th- and 15th-century ducal palace, in Gothic style, which still includes a dwelling (clearly visible from the Place des Ducs), the ducal kitchens (Cour de Bar) and two towers: the Tour de la Terrasse, or Tour Philippe le Bon, and the Tour de Bar. Most of the buildings visible today, however, were built in the 17th and especially 18th centuries, in a classical style, with the design of the Place Royale, today's Place de la Libération. Finally, the façade of the Musée des Beaux-Arts, on Place de la Sainte-Chapelle, was built in the 19th century on the site of Dijon's Sainte-Chapelle, destroyed in 1802. This remarkably well-preserved complex bears witness to almost a thousand years of political life in Dijon.
The Palais was one of the seats of the sovereigns of the Burgundian state, the Dukes of Burgundy. Listed as a historic monument in 1862 and again in 1926, it now houses Dijon town hall and the Dijon Museum of Fine Arts.Automatically translated
