This set is a world's first in numismatics: the first official commemorative circulation coin set of a U.S. American Indian tribe. Each coin in this unusual set is struck in Brilliant Uncirculated quality and packaged in protective capsules to keep the finish of each coin pristine. The set includes a 1 Cent showing Quanah Parker, 5 Cents with Black Hawk, a dime with Red Cloud, a quarter with Crazy Horse, a half-dollar with Geronimo, and a dollar coin with Sitting Bull. The Mesa Grande is a respected and traditional tribe of Kumeyaay Indians whose people have been living in what is present-day California for more than 10,000 years. Being one of the American Indian tribes officially recognized by the United States of America, these Indians enjoy the right to mint coins that are accepted as official currency within the tribal territory.
