Dr. Charlie Beil, PhD, was a renowned Western artist and sculptor. He was born in Germany, worked as a cowboy in Argentina, Arizona, and Montana, and lived and worked in Banff from 1930 to the time of his death. Some of his works are owned by the Queen. Along with his conventional artwork, which included the trophies given to accomplished cowboys at the Calgary Stampede, Dr. Beil designed and engraved many local tokens for use in Banff and Calgary, so it is fitting that he would ultimately be commemorated on one himself.
