Comments

12-Foot Davis (full name Henry Fuller Davis) was a Gold Rush personality who later came to settle in the Peace River area, but he wasn't actually 12 feet tall. Rather, he noticed two adjacent claims in the gold fields which were wider than regulations permitted. So he staked his own claim between these two, a claim just 12 feet wide, and extracted $15,000 worth of gold, earning his nickname in the process. Later in life, he became a fur trader and was renowned for his hospitality. Because of his interesting claim to fame and reputation as an upstanding pioneer, he features prominently on all trade dollars from Peace River.
