Gresten is a market town in the Scheibbs District, Federal State of Lower Austria. It has a population of 2,016 inhabitants. After the First World War, Marktgemeinde Gresten (English: Market Town of Gresten) issued notgeld in response to a severe shortage of currency. Private notgeld was also issued in Gresten by Hermann Anderle, Heinrich Gams, Karl Grießler's Nachfolger J. Hagn, Franz Haselmayr, Heiss & Pregartbauer, Johann Schranz, and Ludwig Seidler.
