It was established later than its neighbouring kingdoms, aroun 110 BC, and it centred around its capital city Zafar, modern-day Sana'a. The kingdom conquered the southern kingdoms of Qataban around 200 AD, Saba' around 280 BC, and Haḍramaut around 300 AD. The kingdom of Himyar endured until 525 AD, when it was invaded by the Kingdom of Aksum.
