Coins from Iceland

Iceland became independent from Denmark in 1918. Situated between Greenland and Norway in the Atlantic Ocean and geographically straddling the European and American continents, it has a clearly European culture and history since it was colonized by the Vikings in the 9th century. In 930 was founded the Althing, making it the oldest parliament in the world. The country is one of the top 10 most developed countries in the world, and it is also one of the countries where people are the happiest. Reykjavik, the capital of the country, alone accounts for more than a third of the country's inhabitants. Nicknamed the island of fire and ice, it has a rich and varied natural heritage, mixing waterfalls, geysers, glaciers, fjords and volcanoes. Folk beliefs are still very strong in Iceland, and a large number of Icelanders believe in the existence of Elves and Trolls.
