Comments

The Royal Australian Mint is producing a series of NCLT 50 cent coins to commemorate the Battles of the Western Front that Australian soldiers took a major part in during WW1. They are released on a coin card.

This 2017 coin relates to the action on 11th April 1917 by Australian troops of the 4th Division who carried out an unsuccessful attack on Germany's formidable Hindenberg Line near the village of Bullecourt in France. They suffered more than 3000 casualties, including 1170 lost as prisoners of war. Further attacks were made using reinforcements from the 2nd, 1st & 5th Divisions of the Australian Army during the next few weeks and eventually, after a total of 7482 casualties, Bullecourt was captured.
