Don Messer born 9 May 1909 in Tweedside New Brunswick died 26 March 1973 Halifax Nova Scotia. Began playing violin at 5. Learned Fiddle, Irish and Scottish music. Schooled in formal music in Massachusetts. Started in Radio 1929. Moved to P.E.I. in 1939 and formed a band "Don Messer and his Islanders". Broadcast on radio 1940 - 1960. Broadcast on TV 1959 - 1969 "Don Meser Jubilee". Second most watched TV show after "Hockey Night in Canada" for 10 years. Inducted into Canadian Country Music Hall of Honour.
