Comments

This coin was issued by the Perth Mint as part of a two coin Fine Silver (.999) set that was emulating the original Holey Dollar and Dump. This $1 face value coin is the outer Ring part of the two coin set. The inner part or Dump has a face value of 25 cents and together they make up a $1.25 combined coin.

The Holey Dollar and Dump were introduced by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1813. Due to a shortage of coins he punched out the centre of Spanish silver eight reale coins ("pieces of eight") to make two coins.

There is another variation of the coins. The Centenary of Federation 2001 State Tribute Series. These coins were released with the State badge highlighted in colour. The Dump medallions (note: these are not coins but have the same shape and metal specification as the 25 cent coin) have each state's floral emblem. There is a 6 coin collection (one for each state) (maximum mintage 1500) and also individual state releases.

Please use the link below to refer to details of the 'Dump'. The 'Dump' is the top coin in the picture below.

The links below will take you to the 25 Cent Dump and the combined pieces for the $1.25 coin.
