Comments

The Royal Australian Mint in conjunction with some Australian Newspapers released this NCLT coin as part of a 15 coin set in October/November 2018. The first coin came with a large folding album and the coins were issued in coincards. The series is called "Anzac Spirit - Values that Defined our Nation".

To get a coin you had to obtain a paper token from the newspaper and redeem it at a cost of $3.00. Different tokens were published each day for just over 2 weeks (hence 15 coins).
Eleven of the 15 coins released in the series are 20 cent coins and four of them are 50 cent coins. They were issued in a collector coin card. This 20 Cent coin is not meant for circulation however it is legal tender.

This particular coin refers to the Disciplined Value. When the Australians arrived on the Western Front in March 1916, they entered the relatively quiet Armentieres sector near the French-Belgian border. There they underwent a period of training to learn the rigours of fighting in France and become familiar with new weapons such as Lewis machine guns. Night trench raids on the German positions throughout June and July 1916 gave the Australians important combat skills in preparation for their first major offensive action. The purpose of trench raids was to cross No Mans Land silently and enter the German trenches, where the raiding party would collect documents, snatch a prisoner, and do as much damage as possible before withdrawing. Success depended on the discipline of the raiding party, who would have trained for weeks behind Australian lines.
