Comments

The Royal Australian Mint issued in 1996 a National Identity Masterpieces in Silver Proof $5 Dollars, Five Coin Set with reverse designs paying tribute to people and events that have had a major influence in making us uniquely Australian. This particular coin celebrated the achievements of the Stockman.

The Stockman symbolises tenacity. He's Clancy of the Overflow. He's the Man from Snowy River. The Stockmen were few in number until gold discoveries opened up the inland in the latter part of the nineteenth century. They came to epitomise a part of the national identity: the hard-working Australian learning to understand a magnificent, uncompromising landscape.
