Comments

Every year, beginning with the opening of the Yellowhead Highway in 1970, "Souvenir Dollars" were issued and sold to tourists who visited the popular resort town of Jasper, deep within the eponymous Jasper National Park. One side always displayed the portrait of the town's mascot Jasper the Bear; the other side changed every year.

The Yellowhead Highway runs across Western Canada for 2,960 kilometers, from Winnipeg (capital of Manitoba) to the small village of Masset on the Haida Gwaii islands in the Pacific. This highway also runs through Jasper, which greatly boosted the town's popularity as a holiday destination.
