It is often called “Ståls penning”, which comes form a line in the poem De två dragonerna by Finland-Swedish author Johan Ludvig Runeberg, which reads “Giv åt Stål en penning även”.
The text “MER ÄN LEVA FANN JAG VAR ATT ÄLSKA” comes from the poem Molnets broder by the same author.
The medal was sold by county organizations of the swedish "Hjälpkommittén för Finlands barn" (Relief Committee for Finland's Children) between 1945-1947. When the Continuation War broke out in Finland in 1941 the organization stated evacuating finnish children to Sweden. After the war Sweden helped Finland by providing aid, and the money made from these medals went to that aid.
