Obverse

The obverse features an engraving of Her Majesty the Queen adapted from a photograph by Anthony Buckley taken in 1960. The Queen is pictured wearing the Alexandra Kokoshnik tiara, George VI festoon necklace, and Queen Mary cluster earrings. Also present is the Sash of the Order of the Garter, and a partial view of the Royal Family Order of George VI.

Reverse

The reverse features flora and fauna of New Zealand. Representing the former is the clematis, a flowering vine which is a feature of forests in the springtime. As for the latter, the New Zealand fantail, a small bird found across N.Z. which is very similar to the grey fantail, only differed by the unique call.
