Benito Juárez (1806–1872) was a Zapotec born poor and orphaned at a young age, who taught himself Spanish and Law, and eventually rose through the political ranks to the presidency. He successfully led Mexico through the both the Reform War and the Second French Intervention, firmly establishing Mexican sovereignty on the international stage.

The obverse of this note is distinguished from P#67 by the addition of "C.N.B.S." in the top-left corner; the change in title of "INTERVENTOR DE LA COM. NAL. BANCARIA" to "INTERVENTOR" and its change in position to the top-left corner; the addition of "DIRECCION GENERAL" to the signatures; and the addition of "B de M" above the "CONSEJERO" signature.
