Issued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas as part of the New Design and BSP series, and was issued into general circulation in 1990. This note is similar to the original version (P-168) issued in 1985, but featuring the new seal of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, due to the re-establishment of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in 1993, as enacted under the New Central Bank Act (Republic Act No 7653) of June 14, 1993. Production of this note ceased in 1996, due to the introduction of the 5-piso coin of the Improved Flora and Fauna series and the new 5-piso coin of the BSP series (its last production date was in 1995). It is the only banknote in the New Design (and later BSP) series to not have the year of printing on the front of the note, as the year of production of a banknote was only added in 1998 (1997 for the 10-piso banknote (P-187)). Demonetized and was fully withdrawn from circulation on December 29, 2017, after the release of the New Generation Currency series banknotes in 2010.
