Juana de Ibarbourou (1892-1979) was the most important poet of Uruguay, considered one of the best of Latin America, which caused to be named on 1929 "Juana de América" (Juana of America), while was young. With a very important amount of books, poems, and other writings, was member of the National Academy of letters (Literature).
The allegory in center of banknote is a security feature, as is printed on both sides of the paper, and when looked as transparency must match perfectly, is based on the poem "El cántaro fresco" (the fresh jug).
The palm shown on the reverse was of her property, and currently is place at Montevideo's sea shore street. besides is placed a marble stone, with "Poem to palm" written on it.
