The Piedra del Sol (Aztec sun stone) is a monumental sculpture created by the Mexica in the 16th century. It was buried shortly after the conquest and rediscovered in 1790. It is made up of a central disk and three rings. Often called the Aztec Calendar, its original purpose is unknown.

The Monumento a la Independencia (Monument to Independence) was built in 1910 to celebrate the centennial of Mexico's War of Independence. The top of the monument is crowned with the goddess Nike and the base of the column is surrounded by sculptures of heroes of the War of Independence. Inside is a mausoleum with the remains of prominent national heroes.

This note is distinguished from P#38 by the addition of "El" and "S.A." to "Banco de Mexico" and the change of "Interventor del Gobierno" to "Interventor de la Com. Nac. Bancaria." on the obverse; and on the reverse, the addition of "S.A." below "Banco de Mexico".
