Claudio Rotondaro; 2017. Emisiones del Banco Central del Uruguay 1967-2017. Banco Central del Uruguay, Montevideo.
On December 1974, was approved law 14,316, reforming currency, creating the Nuevo Peso, from July 1st., 1975, at a rate of 1:1,000 from previous one. While new banknotes were printed and reached Uruguay, old currency banknotes kept their value, and remains of unissued banknotes were overprinted, showing new face value and law #, but on this banknote, the space where is placed the watermark on the other face values of the series ($ 500= N$ 0.50, and $ 1000= N$ 1.00), is occupied by national coat of arms, therefore, Central Bank of Uruguay authorities choose not to overprint these notes over national coat of arms, and issue it without modification, but declaring it valid as the other overprinted notes.
On original 100 Pesos note (ROT C# 7A) there are 8 variants owing to different combinations of signatures. Image shown is the specimen issue, as there is not a clear way to determine which banknotes were issued on the old currency, and which on the newer.
