On the upper margin, the sign "REPUBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL" (Republic of the United States of Brazil), topping the inscription "NO THESOURO NACIONAL SE PAGARÁ AO PORTADOR DESTA A QUANTIA DE" (in the National Treasury wil be paid to the holder of this amount of).
