Obverse

Head of young woman wearing mural crown as a tutelary deity of Austria. Orb scepter wrapped in vine branches below to left and sword wrapped in laurel branches below to right. Three mirrored oval medallions in left and right fields: value at the top, helmeted head of Roman goddess Minerva looking inwards in the middle and inscription at the bottom. Crowned double-headed eagle in the bottom field. At its feet, various objects: globe, scroll, laurel branch, painting palette and brushes, caduceus, cog, anchor, plow, and stringed instrument.

aufzusuchen, anzuhalten und zu
beſtrafen.

Designer: Peter Johann Nepomuk Geiger

Peter Johann Nepomuk Geiger (11 January 1805 – 29 October 1880) was a Viennese artist, painter, engraver and lithographer. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and from 1849 he served there as professor. He was the private art teacher to Emperor Franz Joseph and Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, later Emperor of Mexico.
