Comments

Issued as part of the Series D banknote series by the Bank of Japan (Nippon Ginko), and was issued into general circulation on December 1, 1993. Due to the discovery of a large number of counterfeit Series D banknotes at the end of 2004, all Series D banknotes except ¥2000 were virtually suspended on January 17, 2005 and officially suspended on April 2, 2007.

Because of reorganization of government, the Finance Ministry (Okurasho) was
renamed Ministry of Finance (Zaimusho) resulting in a change of the imprint in 2001 and a further one in 2003.

Imprints:
A - 大蔵省印刷局製造 - Okurasho - Finance Ministry Printing Bureau
B - 財務省印刷局製造 - Zaimusho - Ministry of Finance Printing Bureau
C - 国立印刷局製造 - National Printing Bureau

Microprinting was added to upper and lower right corner.
