Designer: Roman Hellmann

Roman Hellmann (1921, Schwarzach-St. Veit, Salzburg – 2012, Vienna) is an Austrian artist who designed the Austrian Schilling banknotes from 1956 until 1970. He studied at the Academy of Applied Art in Vienna. He began his career as a contract designer for Elin, Felten & Guilleaume, the Austrian Board of Trade and Vienna's Office of Culture, among others. From 1952, until his retirement in 1978, he worked as a banknote designer at the National Bank of Austria. Hellmann led the change within the national bank from the use of freelance artists to employed graphic artists. Apart from this, the company De La Rue Giori commissioned him to design numerous drafts and promotional notes.
