This circulating Commemorative Coin was issued by the RAM in 2001 as part of a group of nine coins, one for each of the six States and three self governing Territories of Australia. They Commemorate the Federation of Australia that happened 100 years ago in 1901. The reverse design is by Year 7 student Stacy Jo-Ann Paine from Caroline Chisholm High School who was the winner of the Royal Australian Mint's student design competition for her state/territory. This was a national competition for primary and secondary school students to design a coin to represent their state or territory.


The coin was additionally released in capsules in various other UNC & Proof Sets as follows...
In a Proof ACT 2 Coin Pack along with a 50 cent proof coin.

In a Proof ACT 3 Coin Set along with 50 cent & $1 proof coins.

In a Proof 20 Coin Set along with nine 50 cent & 20 cent proof coins and a 50 cent & $1 proof colourised coin.

In an UNC ACT 2 Coin Pack along with a 50 cent UNC coin.

In an UNC ACT 3 Coin Set along with 50 cent & $1 UNC coins.

In an UNC 20 Coin Folder along with nine 50 cent, nine 20 cent and one $1 UNC coins.


The 50 cent coins had reverses detailing the Coat of arms of each State/Territory.
