Comments

The Banco Nacional Ultramarino was founded in Lisbon in 1864 to control monetary transactions in the colonies. It had the right to issue banknotes in the colonies. That year it opened a branch in Macau and in 1905 issued the first banknotes there. It still issues banknotes in Macau to this day.
