(fr) Antoine van Dyck est un peintre et graveur baroque flamand, surtout portraitiste, qui a été le principal peintre de la cour d'Angleterre, après avoir connu un grand succès en Italie et en Flandre où il vécu jusqu'à l'âge de 21 ans.
En 1848, Adolphe-Christian Jouvenel grava et édita une collection de 25 médailles en bronze en module de ±46 mm représentant les portraits "Des grands hommes de la Belgique". Chacune de ces réalisations était vendue à l'époque au prix de 4 Francs belges.
 Des jetons de 34 mm en bronze ou en laiton reproduisant chacune de ces médailles furent également gravés pour, selon le prospectus de l'époque, mettre cette publication à la portée de tous avec un prix de vente plus démocratique de 50 centimes.
