Comments

These overprinted notes were printed in 1927 and issued on 09/01/1928, but retained the original printing date of 1923. These overprints were made because the new banknotes would not be ready for the changeover from Mark to Kroon in January 1928. Also no special information campaign was organised, so these notes informed the public that there was a reform happening.

Pick mentions a P# 61a without serial prefix letter, but these are not mentioned by local reference books. All overprints are on series A notes (P# 61b). There is however a variety as part of the notes have 7 digits and part has 8 digits (all included in the total mintage of 10 370 000).

Specimen note (P# 61s) has red overprint PROOV on both sides and has no serial number. They exist both with and without the serial prefix letter A.

Paper from both Räpina paper factory (Estonia) and the Līgatne paper mill (Latvia).
