Comments

In 1977, a series of five commemorative dollars was released into circulation, valid as currency throughout the province of British Columbia. Each dollar commemorated one of five Chinese royal dynasties and one of five virtues. British Columbia is known for its Chinese heritage, as it was the first destination of all Chinese immigrants traveling to Canada, and the Chinatown in Vancouver is the second largest on the American continents. Today, 438,140 people of Chinese descent call the province home.
