Comments

In the "Chinook Jargon" spoken between white traders and aboriginal peoples in the interior of British Columbia in the 19th century, "Hyack" meant to hurry up, and this word quickly became associated with New Westminster, the first incorporated settlement on the mainland of British Columbia. One of the strange traditions practiced in New Westminster is an exuberant traditional celebration of May Day, a holiday typically ignored by the masses or used by political activists. These celebrations have been going on every year since 1870.
