Comments

The Royal Australian Mint issued this Pad Printed NCLT 50 cent coin as a tribute to those who served in the War in the Pacific. The war came to Australia in 1942 when Japanese forces in the Pacific overran British and Commonwealth forces in Malaya and Singapore and invaded New Guinea. Darwin and Northern Australia was repeatedly bombed while Sydney and Newcastle were also attacked. Along the Kokoda Trail and at Milne Bay, Australian forces blunted the Japanese offensive in Papua. From 1943 to 1945 Australians fought in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, and were fighting in Borneo when the Japanese ultimately surrendered in 1945.

This partly colourised coin is part of the "Australians at War" 18 coin series being issued individually. Six coins were issued in 2014, Six in 2015 and the final Six in 2016.

All of the coins were issued in individual credit card sized coincards.
