Comments

Every year, beginning with the opening of the Yellowhead Highway in 1970, and ending with the Centennial of Alberta in 2005, "Souvenir Dollars" were issued and sold to tourists who visited the popular resort town of Jasper, deep within the eponymous Jasper National Park. One side always displayed the portrait of the town's mascot Jasper the Bear; the other side changed every year. The 2003 issue is the only token of the lot to be struck in aureate steel.
