This Sterling Silver (.925) NCLT Proof coin was issued as part of the 1989 Fifty Cent Collection Masterpieces in Silver Set with four other Sterling Silver Proof 50 cent coins.



The coins in the set were all 1989 dated versions of previously released commemorative 50 cent coins that had been released into circulation they were :-

A 50 cent coin featuring the special reverse face for the Captain Cook Bicentenary year of 1970.
This 50 cent coin featuring the special reverse face for the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 1977.
A 50 cent coin featuring the special reverse face for the celebration of the marriage of Charles and Diana in 1981
A 50 cent coin featuring the special reverse face for the Brisbane Commonwealth Games of 1982.
A 50 cent coin featuring the special reverse face for the Bicentennial Year 1988.

Over 25 million Copper-nickel versions of this 50 cent coin were released into circulation and included in the UNC and Proof Year sets for 1977. (However they had the Arnold Machin 2nd Portrait of QE II)
