Coins from Ziz

Ziz or Ṣyṣ (Panormos in Greek), meaning flower, was founded by the Phoenicians in 734 BC on the location of modern-day Palermo. Carthage took over the city until 254 BC when it was conquered by the Romans. The city issued bronzes and silver tetradrachms with the Sicilian Litra standard from the end of the 5th century BC. During the brief occupation by Pyrrhus of Epirus, the Greek General in 276 BC, gold fractional staters were issued.
