The Royal Australian Mint in conjunction with some Australian Newspapers released this NCLT coin as part of a 14 coin series called "Legends of the Anzacs" in April 2017.
To get a coin you had to obtain a token from the newspaper and redeem it at a cost of $3.00. Different tokens were published each day for 2 weeks (hence 14 coins). The coins are commemorating various service medals awarded to Australian Military personnel from the Boer war to the Afghanistan war.
Ten of the 14 coins released in the series are 20 cent coins and four of them are 25 cent coins. They were issued in a collector coin card.
This 25 Cent coin is part of the second series of "Quarters" issued by the RAM. Although not meant for circulation it is legal tender.
This particular coin refers to the Victoria Cross medal which is the highest award for acts of gallantry in the face of enemy during wartime. 100 Australians have been awarded the Victoria Cross medal up to the present time.
