Bulgaria was known as Principality of Bulgaria (1878-1908) and Tsardom of Bulgaria (1908-1946) earlier.

The Royal Coat of Arms was adopted in 1887. The Central Heraldic lion (lesser Coat of Arms) remained same while some modifications were made to the full version in 1927 & that remained till 1946.

Ferdinand I (1861-1948)  was Prince of Bulgaria from 1887 to 1908 &  then Tsar of Bulgaria  from 1908 to 1918
