The coin depicts the Ħaġar Qim Temples on thecrest of a ridge overlooking the south-west coast of Malta about two kilometres away from the village of Qrendi. At the top right the inscription ‘Ħaġar Qim TEMPLES’ and underneath the years ‘3600-3200 BC’. At the bottom left the name of the issuing country ‘MALTA’ and underneath the issuing date ‘2017’.

The Ħaġar Qim Temples complex is a megalithic temple complex found on the Mediterranean island of Malta, dating from the Ġgantija phase (3600-3200 BC). The Megalithic Temples of Malta are among the most ancient religious sites on Earth. Ħaġar Qim was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992.

This coin is the second of a series of seven that will be issued by the Bank which will depict Malta's prehistoric monuments that are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
