This NCLT release by the RAM is part of a four coin set which is included in the Official ANZAC Centenary Coin Program. The set is titled "A War Close To Home".
Through the eyes of a nation not accustomed to conflict at home, war in our otherwise peaceful region still seems hard to comprehend so many years later. This four coin set tells the story of how war arrived in our region and how Australia managed a successful defence against experienced and motivated aggressors.
This particular coin highlights the "Kokoda Track" where Australian and Allied Forces fought the Japanese Army in New Guinea eventually pushing them back before they reached Port Moresby
