Comments

Upon independence in August 1947 the newly formed Republic of Pakistan sought to produce a distinctive new series of designs for the coinage of the country. Three separate pattern designs for the Rupee were proposed and produced under the instruction of Sinclair-Jones, the master of the mint in Lahore. The first two designs were never adopted, however the latter which this coin is struck from went onto be used for the currency Rupee struck for over a decade between 1948-1960.

The first proposed design had on the obverse the Toughra within a circle and the legend GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN written in an outer circle. The reverse depicted a crescent and star, with the value in Urdu and in English above.

The passage of time has obscured the physical existence of the original coin specimens, relegating them to the annals of history. However, through meticulous research and information gleaned from diverse sources, including the NGC website, a digital representation of this coin has been faithfully recreated.
