In the circulating currencies of 5, 10, 20 and 50 Ariary, the coins have been using a different motto according to the years of issue:
  • MOTTO A is “TANINDRAZANA - TOLOM-PIAVOTANA-FAHAFAHANA”. It means “Homeland-Revolution-Liberty”. This was used on: 10 and 20 Ariary of 1978 and 1983 and 5, 10, 20, and 50 Ariary of 1992.
  • MOTTO B is “TANINDRAZANA-FAHAFAHANA-FAHAMARINANA”. It means “Homeland-Liberty-Justice”. This was used on: 5 and 20 Ariary of 1994 and 5 and 50 Ariary of 1996.
  • MOTTO C is “TANINDRAZANA-FAHAFAHANA-FANDROSOANA”. It means “Homeland-Liberty-Progress”. This has been used on 10 and 20 Ariary of 1999 and 50 Ariary of 2005.
  • MOTTO D is “FITIAVANA-TANINDRAZANA- FANDROSOANA”. It means “Affection-Homeland-Progress”. Up to now this has been used on 10 and 50 Ariary of 2016.
