Scarce Form Pewter Civil War Dog Tag of James M. McKelvey, Co. D, 135th Pa. Vol. 1 1/8" diameter, "War of 1861/ Union Forever" with American shield and crossed cannons on the obverse. "J. M. McKelvey/ Co. D 135 Reg. Pa. V./ Enlisted in State of Pennsylvania/ Aug 1st 1862" die stamped on reverse. Shows obvious wear and pierced at the top for suspension. McKelvey served with the regiment until muster out on May 24, 1863; he died in 1868 and is buried in the Clarksburg Presbyterian Cemetery in Clarksburg, Pennsylvania. The 135th served with the Army of the Potomac at Belle Plains and Falmouth, Virginia and participated in the Chancellorsville Campaign and battle. Nice Civil War ID tag.
