Replica of a famous gold medal given to George Washington by resolution of the continental congress March 25, 1776, Four Soldiers (including Washington) on horseback on Dorchester Heights overlooking city and harbor from which British vessels were retreating, 2 cannon and shot in foreground, part of fortifications below.

OWNER COMMENTS: Medal, 1901, Copper, EVACUATION OF BOSTON, 125TH ANNIVERSARY, United States, Boston, MASS, So-Called Dollar, HK-131, NGC MS63BN, Cert# 1826726-005. These medals were distributed to Boston school children in 1901, they were struck by Whitehead & Hoag, Newark, NJ. The reverse of this Issue is a replica of a famous gold medal given to George Washington by resolution of the continental congress March 25, 1776, it was the only gold medal ever granted him by the Federal Government. Obv. Within wreath Souvenir, 125th Anniversary, Evacuation Day, Boston Mass, 1901, with microscopic W&H Co. Newark, NJ, beaded border; Rv. Four Soldiers (including Washington) on horseback on Dorchester Heights overlooking city and harbor from which British vessels were retreating, 2 cannon and shot in foreground, part of fortifications below, "Hostibus primo fugatis, Bostonium recuperatum, XVII martn, MDCCLXXVI (The enemy fled immediately, Boston recaptured March 17, 1796), beaded border.
